Working Out With A Purpose: Upcoming Fitness Charity Events
If you’re reading this, then odds are good that you enjoy working out. Great! Do you also like supporting charitable causes? Even if you don’t like to spend every minute of your free time volunteering in soup kitchens, coming out to participate in a fitness fundraising event is both fun and charitable! That way you can have a good time and get in a good workout while supporting a great cause. There’s certainly no shortage of fitness charity events in NYC, but here’s a list of some of our top picks that are coming up this year!
1. Breathe Free: Open Level Yoga with Lululemon
No matter who you are, you could certainly benefit from an extra yoga session. And if you come to the Breathe Free Yoga event at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum’s Flight Deck at 7 pm on June 3rd, you’ll be helping Veterans Yoga Project as well! The Veterans Yoga Project is an organization dedicated to improving the overall health and well-being of military veterans. The Veterans Yoga Project offers 100 free trauma-sensitive yoga classes to veterans every single week! Show up for this event with a suggested donation of $10 to support vet’s PTSD treatment!
2. Great Strides for Cystic Fibrosis
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s biggest fundraiser in the entire country, Great Strides, is back for its 30th year. Come out on June 3rd at Pier 16 - South Street Seaport at 10 am to support curing cystic fibrosis with this 5K event. It doesn’t cost you anything to participate in the walk, but of course, all walkers are encouraged to raise funds to donate to the cause. Funds will go towards helping to accelerate research and development of cystic fibrosis treatments.
3. 305 Fitness & The Hope Gala - Dance for a Cure
Put on your dancing shoes and make your way down to 305 Fitness - South Beach Studio on May 20th at 3:30 for a charitable dance workout like no other! This 55-minute dance session requires absolutely no experience - just come dance, have fun, and support a good cause! The tickets for the event cost $35 and will go towards helping The Hope Gala in their fundraising efforts towards beating childhood cancer. The proceeds will help raise awareness about childhood cancer, provide financial help, and support victims in the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
4. Sweat for a Cause and Save a Life
Krystal Salvent is teaming up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by cycling 100 miles in California this June; and to kick off this incredible awareness campaign, she’s holding a one-hour fundraiser workout session at Lululemon (597 5th Ave) on May 19th at 11:30! This workout class doesn’t require any previous experience, but it will certainly test your balance, strength, endurance, and mental toughness. As Salvent says: “We get stronger, it never gets easier,” which is the same tough mental attitude that people fighting cancer need to have. The workout costs a $20 minimum donation that will be going directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support those in need.
If none of these events are piquing your interest, or you just want to go above and beyond for a cause you truly believe in, then you should consider organizing a fundraiser of your own! You could do a simple 5K or Yoga class right in Central Park! Even if you only get five people to come with a $25 donation, that’s still over $100 going towards a charitable cause. No matter how big or small of a contribution you make, keep in mind that every dollar makes a difference!
